Thought I'd start a topic where we can talk about autograph collecting, pieces from our collections, meeting Star Wars stars etc.

I have a few autographs, mainly on 8" x 10" photos, which I have collected at various shows. My currant project is a set of postcards mounted on black mounting card, which i'm trying to get as many star wars autographs on as possible.

First off, heres a scan of a piece I collected a couple of years ago, which i'm hoping some of you may be able to shed a little light on.

The autographs are Smitts, Oz, McGregor, Lucas, Baker, Christensen, Portman, Jackson. To be honest i've always suffered with a bit of buyers remorse when I look at this piece. I bought it at an auction during a Star Wars event. But as I didn't collect the autographs in person, I always wonder if there real. (also with names like this, it does seem a little too good to be true).

Can anyone tell me whether the auto's are real?

Also please post some pic's of your autograph collections.

Ooooooh, mmmmmmmm, eeeeeeerrrrrrrrr.

I'm undecided with the whole autograph thing as, in my opinion, there is doubt over legitimacy of signatures if you purchase something signed (Watto: Please note this is not detremental to your purchase and I'm not saying that those above are fake as I don't know!), but if you obtain any item through a respectible establishment then you would expect the monica to be real.  It begrudges me that you have to queue for the majority of your time at any event (of which queing of any sort and kids do not mix, (so some advice to Watto do it all now before your little one grows up!) and then when you get to the front you have to part with cash in the region of £10 to £20 for a quick scribble, a photo if the queue is short enough and no chance to have a conversation unless there is no queue!  Now I understand that some actors only do a few films and so to earn their keep they charge for the privelidge and the flip side is that any item signed then increases in value, but I have been to motorsport events where I haven't paid a penny, I even followed Bruno Senna at Goodwood back to his trailer and when he emerged he happily signed my programme.

Saying all this I have got two SW signatures (check out my collection for a piccie!) Jeremy Bulloch's I did pay £10 for, but I didn't mind as he was really chatty and not only did he sign something of mine rather than one of his promotional photos he then slipped a signed postcard of him (in costume) into my book before handing it back.  The Warwick Davis scribble was obtained at Chessington World of Adventures (they have a solution to the queing and kid issue raised earlier) and this was a freebie and we had a lengthy conversation about Lego Star Wars!

I think, (one last thing and I'll get down from my box, sorry Watto!) ultimately it is a personal thing in as much as you saying you have met that person and the signature (and possible  photo) prove it, so to you that have fair play and those that haven't you are missing out!

Not quite the response I was expecting , Mr Yamaro!

But I do agree with what your saying. Meeting the stars is the most important part of autograph collecting. It's always great to meet the actors in person, (Unfortunatly I find talking to people I don't know difficult, so I struggle to say much more than "nice to meet you, please can you sign this for me? Thank you" !). If possible, I always try to get a photo of myself with the actor or a photo of them signing the photo. Its nice to watch star wars and think 'i've met him' whenever I see them on screen!

As for prices I don't mind paying, but it sometimes bothers me when minor background characters are charging the same as main characters. It must also be difficult for parents at shows when their children are wanting autographs, but not understanding the cost.

Since I bought the above photo, I have decided I will not buy another signed item that has not been signed in front of me. Mainly because they may not be authentic and because it is much better to meet the person and therefore have the memories of meeting them. If the signatures on my item are real (which I have my doubts) it would be a great item. But it still wouldn't mean so much to me when compared to some of my 'in person' autographs as I did not meet the people signing it.

I have a few signed items:

Darth Vader figure (signed in person at local autograph store)

Chewie figure (signed in person a london film and comic)

Darth Maul Lithograph (signed in person at CE)

Boba Fett Lithograph (signed in person at CE)

Not SW but i have a Frodo plate (signed in prson at London film and comic)

And 2 Karl Myer signed Gentle Giant boxes which i had at Forbidden Planet in London the day before CE.

All with pictures of the actor signing the merchandise.

I met Steve Sansweet and Randy Martinez at CE and they signed my programme.

I try to make it a rule to only buy signed items that i actually saw being signed, but i was in work last week and a customer sold us a Empire film cell signed by Darth Vader, so i'm going to buy it because there is a picture of him signing the cell at the back of the frame. I will post a pic when i buy it.

I'm not really into paying for signed items myself... it's more like a souvenir of meeting someone to me, although I always make a photo my priority. I have signed items fom Rick McCallum, Peter Mayhew, Steve Sansweet and Hayden Blackman (comics writer/LucasArts project lead).

Iv'e only got about 10 autographs but i'd like to think there good ones.

I think my best ones have to be from celebration europe a signed pass signed by Mark hamill which has a seprete letter of authenticity with a photo of mark signing it.

And i have the dave prouse autograph that comes in a large card frame with 3 or 4 pics the largest pic has dave prouse stood in his vader outfit with the helmit off.

I'd love to get an autograph from carie fisher

Ohh and i'm still waiting on harrison ford lol

Size matters not. Judge me by my size, do you?

In time you will call me master.
