So I was keeping it old school on Friday night and saw Return of the Jedi (original version, not special edition) when I started thinking....

At the end of Revenge of the Sith we see Palpatine, Vader & Tarkin watching the construction beginning of the Death Star.  Fast forward 19 years and the Death Star is destroyed.  Skip forward another 4 years and the Death Star mark II is almost half finished but much much bigger.

So my question is, if it took them 19 years to build the original Death Star how come they managed to get the second one put together so quickly?  I know Vader says he can find "new ways to motivate them" but those builders must be on some strong stuf!!!!

Any suggestions?

Agreed... I always felt that it should have said '15 years later' during ROTS in this scene.

I now understand that the construiction of the Death Star is dealt with in more detail during The Force Unleashed so mabe we'll get some answers there...

Cheers

Weeeeeeeellllllll......

They built the second one quicker as they knew what went wrong on the first on and so they didn't make the same mistakes twice!

....or....

They were building two at the same time, with the second being built at the same place that they built all the ships to transport all the clones (see previous thread)

....or.....

The one that we see at the end of ROTS isn't the same one that we see being blown up by Luke in ANH as they had 'technical' issues during construction of the first one and had to restart, this could have happened again (and again) to bring us inline with the timescale seen in the movies.

....or.....

The location of the secret laboratory in the Maw Cluster of black holes was complicating the delivery of parts tested there.

....or....

......I don't know..........

“(Obi-Wan) "That boy is our last hope." (Yoda) "No, there is another."”

"(Yoda) "Yamaro his name is.""

Lol, some nice and fun retcons there Yamaro!!

I figure it would have been better just to have the Emperor and Tarkin showing Vader the plans for the Death Star, as seen at the end of AOTC. But it is a way cool scene as it is!!

I'm guessing the first Death Star would have taken a lot longer to build as the factories and equipment/machines needed to build the components would also have to be built first and the designing and first construction stages would have to be done in secret so the Jedi didn't find out. Also although most of the outside of the 2nd Death Star was complete, maybe the interior was nowhere near completion?

What i've always wondered is, If the 1st Death Star was so easily destroyed on the Rebels 1st attempt (therefore the empire losing many men, officers, ships and equipment etc). Why build another?

For those of you who are wondering how, the answer i simple read the books.  The book go much into detail and cover all the years that the movie doesn't cover.  So i won't give away how they built it so quickly i will jsut say geth the books out and not just the movie books the books that tell the storyline between the movies.  It explains it all just have to pick em up and read.
