I'm interested to know what people think about convention exclusives subsequently being made available after the event...obviously it's good from the point of view that you can still get hold of something even if you weren't able to attend the convention, but do you think it devalues the exclusivity by doing it....

Gonna have to do a bit of fence sitting on this one Darth as there are the plus sides and the negatives. for one thing we can only get some of the US exclusives on the secondary market, However I as have many others  just acquired several of the European exclusive at CE which are now becoming available at marked up prices (I want some the exclusives I missed at the show and that higher price does get to me a little)

As for the plus i am hopefully somewhere along the line going to be able to pick up the SDCC exclusives later in the year probably from the Collectormania show in Manchester, the bad side overall is that we pay a premium to do this when we all know exclusive are premium priced products to start with. If they can be sold through a national supplier at good honest prices great (if we can get to the conventions this would be start)

My final take on it this to me there is no depreciation on the exclusive ultimately if you remember where you bought it from in the first place nothing can take that away as it part of a great experience. so good and bad in the end!

Cracking question by the way

Same as Boba, good but not good. The bad is I bought the Boba Fett CE animated for full whack, then i was offered it at a reduced price. Also a few internet stores are selling it at a reduced price. I also had Medal of Yavin and Shadowtrooper scaled Helmet, which are now cheaper on certain internet stores.

But the good is that we can get the US exclusives when we cant get the US.

I also dont like the price's on SW merchandise. What we pay compared to the Yanks. Bly was £39.99 about $82.00, Cody was $50.00 about £24.00. Just another example of rip off Britain.

I can only speak for Hasbro exclusives, since I'm not very up on how easy the other lines are to get.

Personally I'm not too offended by the way Collector Zones are selling the 3PO/R2 set, since they've added a few quid on (but not too much) and it's through their website. It does feel a bit bumming though when you're in Toys R Us and they have two pegs full of CE Luke figures. It just takes away the 'special' feeling a little. Maybe if they were charging 11.99/12.99 it wouldn't seem so bad. At least I didn't have to queue for long for mine.

The secondary market (ie eBay) mdoesn't bother me too much, since it gives us all a chance to get the US event exclusives. Except when there's supposed to be a buying limit of course and then someone has 50 on eBay.

I'll be joining you on the fence with this one.  As I dont get to go to many events (especially when one is on holiday!:crazy then it is a great opportunity to complete the set.  I do feel that there is a 'devaluation' from buying 'off the shelf' of high street stores and agree with Mr Graham that this devaluation is sentimentally based.  It depends really on the angle taken by the publisher as to whether to limit production (in which case I suppose prices would go up even higher) or whether to roll them out as part of mass production because they know they will sell.  In either case I think to appease the lucky souls that get to go to the particular event then the packaging should be designed to reflect this.  This way those that do pick up the exclusives from an event would have the same but different as those who only manage to buy from the shops.

To quote a famous plastic lizard called Rex " I dont like confrontation" so I will peacefully get down from my soapbox and sit on the fence.
