I think i can safely say most adult SW fan's prefere the Original Trilogy, i know i do. But are the prequal's really that bad, people slate the hell out of them but at the end of the day, they gave us a link between OT and the Prequal's, filled in a few question and they gave us a full story of how Darth Vader became who he was, that Palpatine manipulated him so much that he turned to the Dark Side. They also gave us Jango, Clone Trooper's and the best lightsaber dual between Obi-Wan, Qui Gon and Maul and other cool battles Yoda V's Sidious, Obi V's Vader and so much more. Yes some of the acting was lame and some of the character's were totally pointless (Jar Jar). A few bits didn't really match up with the OT but still, they are Star War's film's.

But what if the prequal's were directed by someone else! Say Irvin Kershner (TESB) or maybe Richard Marquand (ROTJ) or even another dirctor Steven Spielberg (ET). Those film's would have been totally different.

What do you think of the prequal's and what do you wish happened in the prequal's, what would you change.

I loved the Orignal trilogy as a kid and I also love the prequels for relaunching my interest in star wars.

At the risk of being unpopular, I'm going to say EP1 is my favourite of the 6 movies. I don't think its the best film (Empire's probably the best). I think the prequels get a hard time from fans as they cannot compete with your childhood memories of playing with star wars toys and believing Luke and the force was real. I would be interested in knowing how the children of today rate the PT against the OT.

The things I would change would be Maul surviving, no Dooku and introduce Grievous into AOTC at Genosis.

I agree Maul is a cool Sith, George should have swapped Maul for Dooku and have Maul in EP 2 and 3. I think Anakin should have been a bit older in EP 1. Lucas should have had EP 2 as EP 1 and a Clone Wars film as EP 2 to delvelop the Characters a bit more, we didnt get to know a lot about other Jedi in the film's. EP 3 Anakin turn to the dark side and a longer order 66 that showed the Jedi bonding with the Clone's more, before they turn on them.

I agree.

I think Anakin would be more believable if he was older in EP1. Although Lucas would have had to be careful he didn't make a clone of EP4 (Young man meets Jedi, becomes Hero, Saves the day , becomes Jedi).

Lucas had alot to fit into three films and having Anakin as a young lad in EP1 meant that other events had to be squeezed in.

For example in the beginning of Aotc Padme sees Anakin as a 'little boy she met on tatooine' very shortly afterwards she's in love.

In Ep3 Anakin goes from being a troubled jedi to a sith lord in minutes. Its one thing to defend the man who might be able to save your wifes life, but another to immediately agree to kill all your friends and colleagues and your master that you describe as the 'closest thing to a father'.

Another interesting point to think about is , if we didn't have the prequels, how much interest would there now be in Star wars? There wouldn't many toys/ collectibles about for sure!

I agree that there was a lot to fit into three films- I wish Lucas had done more prequels. However, I personally rank the prequels up there with the Original Trilogy. This is probably at least partly due to me 'growing up' with all of them.

At the risk of sounding outright crazy, I think Attack of the Clones is the most underrated of the movies. At the time and since, it tends to get considered worse than TPM! Don't get me wrong, I loved TPM, but I think AOTC was a much better SW movie. I much preferred the dialogue between Obi-Wan/Anakin to the dialogue between the characters in TPM, which is always seemed way too formal, with no-one sharing much friendly banter. I also think the love scenes get too much stick- there are too full of dreadful dialogue, but personally I like the scene before they go out into the Arena (though admittedly maybe much of the emotion comes from Williams' score).

I also think the pacing of AOTC was perfect for a Star Wars film. Loads of action, with just enough exposition. Count Dooku is also a great villain, tragically underused, although I think that comes back to three films not being enough for the prequels. The scale of AOTC also blew TPM out of the water- I know they're all about the whole galaxy's fate, but it seems more intense when stuff's happening on Coruscant and not Naboo, and when a few  hundred Jedi whip their lightsabers out. Overall I think it's the pace, the scope and the less formal dialogue that make AOTC more 'Star Warsy' than TPM for me.

Lucas once said that he had 9 film's planned, but he also said the Skywalker story was finished after ROTJ. Guess we'll see what happen's in another few years!!!

I like all the films, original and prequels.

I think people don't like AOTC because of the love stuff but obviously this is necessary to the story.  Would have been utterly pointless if that had not been in it.

I really like Phantom menace.  You have to bear in mind that George Lucas cast Anakin so young so that kids would get into the film and as a result bring on a new generation of Star Wars fans.  Lets face it, this worked.  you just had to see all the younglings at Star Wars Celebration Europe.
